Messages & verification

How Gerany works, plus answers to common questions.

Message your neighbors privately — one-to-one or in group chats.

  • Starting a new conversation or call requires a verified profile picture, so outreach stays between proven real neighbors — verify any time from Settings.
  • If a neighbor messages you first, you can always reply — no badge needed.
  • Verified neighbors show a verification badge next to their name.

01

Start a conversation

1. Tap Message on any post, listing, service, or profile.

2. Write your message — photos, video, voice notes, documents, and your location can all be attached with the paperclip.

3. Phone numbers are never exchanged — everything happens inside Gerany.

First time? Starting conversations needs one-time identity verification (next section). Replying to neighbors who message you first is always open, no verification needed.

02

Verify your identity (one time)

This is what makes every conversation on Gerany a conversation with a real, accountable neighbor.

1. Go to Settings and open identity verification.

2. Open the camera check: your front camera captures a few live frames while you slowly turn your head — one side first, then the other, in the order shown on screen. It takes about 30 seconds.

3. Clear results are confirmed instantly; borderline ones go to a human reviewer — you can keep using the app meanwhile.

Privacy: the check runs on your own device — your photos never leave it; only the numeric results are sent. (On older app versions photos were uploaded to run the check; those are deleted as soon as it's decided.) Nothing is ever shown to anyone or used to train anything; what stays is your verification record.

03

Group chats

1. In Messages, tap New group.

2. Pick at least 2 members — from people you've messaged, or pull in a whole circle.

3. Name it (optional) and create. Group settings let members add others if you allow it.

04

Voice and video calls

1. Open any conversation and tap the phone or camera icon.

2. 1:1 calls are encrypted device-to-device — the media never passes through Gerany's servers.

3. Group calls hold up to 16 people and are encrypted in transit.

4. Gerany never stores call content, and no call ever reveals your phone number.

05

The Private space

Inside any 1:1 conversation there is a separate, end-to-end encrypted room:

1. Open the conversation's Private space.

2. What's written there is readable by the two of you and no one else — not even Gerany.

3. The trade-off is deliberate: because nobody else can read it, nothing from the Private space can ever be cited in a Resolution Center dispute. Make the deal in Messages; share the secret in the Private space.
