Getting started

How Gerany works, plus answers to common questions.

Your account starts with a unique @username — adding a phone number is optional.

  • Pick a username, then add at least one way to sign in: your mobile number, a password, or a passkey.
  • WhatsApp code: add your number and a 6-digit code arrives on WhatsApp to verify it — the easiest way in.
  • Passkey: save a passkey and next time you sign in with your fingerprint or face in a second.
  • Coming back: type your username, number, or email into one box and Gerany routes you to the right step — code, password, or passkey. New device? Scan the QR code from a device you're already signed in on.

After signing in you'll accept the user agreement and complete your profile: a display name, your photo, and your email. A phone can be added and verified any time from Settings.

01

Create your account

1. Open gerany.com (or the app) and tap Create a new account.

2. Choose a username — at least 5 characters; letters, numbers, dots, and underscores. This is your unique @handle.

3. Add at least one way to sign in: your phone number, your email, or a password. Any one is enough — phone earns the most trust from neighbors, email lets you post, a password simply secures sign-in.

4. If you gave a phone number, we send a 6-digit code — enter it to verify. Didn't get it? Use the Send the code by SMS or Get the code by phone call options.

5. Accept the user agreement (shown in your language, for your country), and you're in.

02

Set up your profile

1. Add your display name — the name neighbors see, no need for it to be legal or formal.

2. Upload a real photo of your face. Not a logo, not a pet, not a drawing — this photo is what identity verification will match against later, so a clear honest photo saves you time.

3. Add your email if you haven't — we send a verification link; tap it in your inbox.

4. Write a line about yourself in About you (optional but neighborly).

03

Turn on your location

Gerany shows you what's near you — so it needs to know, roughly, where you are.

1. When asked, tap Enable location and allow it in the browser or system prompt.

2. Blocked it by mistake? On iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → your browser → While Using. On Android: Settings → Location → your browser's site settings → allow gerany.com. Then come back and tap Enable location again.

3. Your exact point is never shown to anyone: neighbors only ever see a coarse distance like "2 km away", and every stored location has random jitter added on top.

04

Sign in faster next time

A passkey lets you sign in with your fingerprint or face — no codes, no passwords, and it can't be phished.

1. Go to Settings and find the Passkey section.

2. Tap Add a passkey and confirm with Face ID / Touch ID / your screen lock.

3. Next time you sign in, tap Sign in with a passkey — or just tap Get started on the landing page; devices that have used a passkey before get the one-tap prompt automatically.
