Gerany shows you content from neighbors near you, so it needs location permission from your device.
- Every post is tagged with its author's location at posting time, and appears to neighbors who have it within their radius.
- Neighbors never see your exact location — only a coarse distance like "2 km away".
- Your phone number is never shown to anyone.
- Your feed range adjusts automatically to neighbor density — as more neighbors join, it narrows to people truly nearby.

What neighbors can and cannot see
Neighbors can see: your display name, @username, photo, bio, your public posts and comments, and a coarse distance like "2 km away".
Neighbors can never see: your phone number, your email, your exact location, or your address. Phone numbers are never exchanged — even when you message or call each other.
Extra protections that are always on:
- Every stored location point has random jitter added, so even our own database never holds your exact spot.
- Distances shown to others are rounded, never precise.

Control who can reach you
1. Open Privacy & data from your profile menu.
2. Who can message me / Who can call me — choose Everyone, People I've interacted with, or No one.
3. Hide my distance — neighbors see just "nearby" instead of a distance.
4. Appear in search — turn off and nobody can find you by name.
5. To silence one specific person, open their profile and block them — they can no longer message, call, or see your activity, and they are not told.

See, download, or delete your data
1. Download my data (in Privacy & data) gives you a complete export of everything Gerany holds about you.
2. Consent history shows every agreement version you accepted, when, and in which language.
3. Sign-in history lists every sign-in with time, device, and network address — if you see one you don't recognize, change your password and use Sign out everywhere.
4. Delete my account deactivates you immediately and permanently erases everything after 30 days. Changed your mind? Sign in again within those 30 days and your account is restored.

All your privacy controls
Everything here is free for every neighbor. It all lives under Privacy & data — open your profile menu (your picture, top corner) and choose Privacy & data. Here is the complete list, and what each control does.
Who can reach you
- Who can message me and Who can call me — choose Everyone, People I've interacted with, People in my circles, or No one.
- Who can add me to a circle — the same four choices. On No one, nobody can add you.
- One exception: a neighbor you have already talked to can always reply. Under No one, that is the only way in.
Who can see you
- Who can see my profile and find me — Everyone, People I've interacted with, People in my circles, or No one. Under No one you do not appear in search or to strangers; your own posts still carry your @username to whoever can see the post.
- Who sees my profile's posts and Who sees my profile's comments — Everyone, People I've interacted with, or Only me.
- Who can see my connections — Nobody, Only me, or My connections. Hidden by default.
- Who can see my circles — Nobody, Circle members, or Everyone. Hidden by default.
- Who can see when I was last active — the same four audience choices.
How private your presence is
- Hide my distance — neighbors see "nearby" instead of a distance.
- Appear in search — turn it off and nobody finds you by name.
- Who can see when I was last active — set it to No one and your activity times are hidden too.
There is no separate "ghost mode": Appear in search off plus Who can see when I was last active set to No one is exactly what it used to do.
How you appear in a chat
- Read receipts — off, and the other person never learns you read their message.
- Typing indicators — off, and they never see that you are typing.
Capture protection
- Screen capture protection turns the screenshot and screen-recording shield on or off for calls and protected chats. On Android it blocks them outright; on iPhone it detects recording, hides the content, and warns you about a screenshot. See Safety → Screenshots and call recording.
Businesses
- Share my name with businesses — off (default): a business sees only your @username. On: it also sees your display name. A business never sees your phone number.
- Blocked businesses — manage the businesses you have blocked. See Services → What a business can see about you.
Circles you own
- Open a circle you own and choose who sees its member list: only you (default) or all members. Other neighbors never see your connections.
Block and report
- Block a neighbor: open their profile and choose Block. They cannot message you, call you, or see your activity — and they are not told. Manage the list under Privacy & data → Blocked users.
- Report: from any profile, post, comment, or message.
Your data
- Download my data, Delete my account, your sign-in history, your signed-in devices (sign out one or all), and your consent history are all under Privacy & data.
- Anonymous posting is in the composer — two a month, and Gerany+ members have no limit.
