Help & Support
How Gerany works, plus answers to common questions.
🏡 What is Gerany?‹
Gerany turns physical proximity into a living community. No follow buttons, no friend requests — geography is the social graph: everything you see comes from real, verified neighbors around you, within a range that adapts to how many neighbors are near.
Community service is built into Gerany's DNA. Neighbors are encouraged to offer services to their community — tutoring, home cooking, repairs, professional help — with one honest rule: you may charge a fee only if you state it clearly up front. The Services directory is filled entirely by neighbors, and trust comes from vouches by real neighbors, not anonymous star ratings.
Neighbors, connected. Picture it: one neighbor bakes healthy sourdough bread, another has a scooter and time to deliver, and a third loves eating healthy bread — all within walking distance, and Gerany connects them. Or you're learning something new and someone a few buildings away is learning the same thing — now you can find each other, practice together, and keep each other going.
Engagement happens around real life, not an algorithm. The feed shows what's genuinely nearby — always tagged with how far away it happened. Gatherings organize meetups with RSVPs and a pinned venue; Buy & Sell keeps commerce local; Circles give each of your real-life groups its own hand-picked feed, so every post reaches exactly the people it's meant for.
Two ways to message. Messages are private and accountable: chats and group chats with photos, voice notes, and more — no phone numbers exchanged — and the conversation is a record. The Private space is an end-to-end-encrypted room inside a conversation, readable by the two of you and no one else — not even Gerany — so nothing there can ever be cited in a dispute, and it lives only on your devices. Make the deal in Messages; share the secret in the Private space.
The Dispute Resolution Center. When a deal between neighbors goes wrong — a service not delivered, an item not as described, a payment that never arrived — either side can open a case. It is negotiation-first: the two of you propose a settlement and Gerany ratifies it; only if that fails does it escalate to an impartial review with a written, reasoned decision. Because Messages are a record, what was said and agreed can be reviewed — agreements made in Messages are agreements you can stand on.
Calls stay in the neighborhood. Encrypted audio and video calls, 1:1 or a group of up to 16, straight from a chat. 1:1 call media flows directly between the two devices — never through Gerany's servers — and Gerany never stores call content.
Trust is earned and visible. Verification badges — a confirmed phone, a verified email, a profile photo confirmed by a live selfie, and optionally an official ID — unlock more of the community, so whoever contacts you has proven they're a real neighbor. Privacy stays yours: coarse distances only, anonymous posting, blocking, and control over who can reach you.
The strongest community online is the one that already exists on your street — Gerany just gives it a place to talk, help each other, and meet.
🚀 Getting started‹
Your account starts with a unique @username — adding a phone number is optional.
- Pick a username, then add at least one way to sign in: your mobile number, a password, or a passkey.
- WhatsApp code: add your number and a 6-digit code arrives on WhatsApp to verify it — the easiest way in.
- Passkey: save a passkey and next time you sign in with your fingerprint or face in a second.
- Coming back: type your username, number, or email into one box and Gerany routes you to the right step — code, password, or passkey. New device? Scan the QR code from a device you're already signed in on.
After signing in you'll accept the user agreement and complete your profile: a display name, your photo, and your email. A phone can be added and verified any time from Settings.
📍 Your location & privacy‹
Gerany shows you content from neighbors near you, so it needs location permission from your device.
- Every post is tagged with its author's location at posting time, and appears to neighbors who have it within their radius.
- Neighbors never see your exact location — only a coarse distance like "2 km away".
- Your phone number is never shown to anyone.
- Your feed range adjusts automatically to neighbor density — as more neighbors join, it narrows to people truly nearby.
📰 Posts & the feed‹
The feed shows posts from neighbors within your radius.
- Write a post with an optional title and photos; hashtags label it — Gerany suggests tags as you write, and you can add your own (up to 5).
- Comment and like — the author gets a notification.
- Tap any neighbor's name or @handle to see their profile, posts, and comments.
- The bell 🔔 at the top collects your comment, like, and RSVP notifications.
☕ Gatherings‹
Gatherings are neighbor meetups: coffee, an outing, a match…
- Create a gathering with a name, time, and venue — search for the place by name, pin it on the map, or use your current location if it isn't on the map.
- The distance neighbors see is measured to the venue itself.
- Tap "Going" or "Interested" — the organizer gets a notification.
- The organizer can cancel the gathering at any time.
🛍 Buy & sell‹
A local marketplace between you and your neighbors.
- Post a listing with photos, a description, and a price.
- Buyers reach you by direct message via the "Message seller" button.
- When it sells, mark the listing sold — or withdraw and relist it any time.
✉️ Messages & verification‹
Message your neighbors privately — one-to-one or in group chats.
- Starting a new conversation or call requires a verified profile picture or ID, so outreach stays between proven real neighbors — verify any time from Settings.
- If a neighbor messages you first, you can always reply — no badge needed.
- Verified neighbors show a verification badge next to their name.
🛡 Safety & reporting‹
See something that doesn't belong? Report it.
- You can report a post, comment, listing, gathering, or user, and pick a reason.
- If 3 different neighbors report the same content, it's hidden automatically until moderators review it.
- Moderators review reports and can remove content or suspend offending accounts.
🔐 Your account & data‹
You're in control of your account and your data.
- From Settings: change your language, photo, and bio, add or remove passkeys, and set or change your password.
- "Download my data" gives you a full copy of your data.
- "Delete my account" locks your account immediately and permanently erases it after 30 days — if you change your mind, just sign in again within that window and it's restored.
- The user agreement and privacy notice are always available from Settings.
